I still prefer my physical keyboard most of the time, but Swype is handy when I want a faster on-screen input (and can be done one-handed, too, which is nice, hee).

I have an Evo, so no physical keyboard for me. Been looking at bluetooth keyboards, though. Swype is very nice, but I'll have to get used to it.

I'm not really good at it yet, and it doesn't seem to work with my Gmail, but I'm loving the Swype.

Hmmm, works with my gmail. I'm on 2.2, btw. I remember having all sorts of trouble with the gmail client on 2.1, though.

How long did it take you to get proficient?

I kept it for a few days, but I have gotten used to typing with two (or more) fingers. The one-handed thing bugged me, and I am actually faster with typing. Also, the Autocorrect on Smart Keyboard Pro is really good, so I am used to only having to enter a few keys on longer words.
So, turned out I am not the target for that keyboard. If you do a lot of one-handed typing, or no-look typing, then I'd recommended it.

Do you have a touchscreen keyboard or a regular one? Also do you type normal or landscape? (Sorry for all the questions!)

Touchscreen (evo). I normally type portrait, two-thumbing like a Blackberry. I can also lay it down landscape and 6-finger type (the evo is pretty large).

If I need more, I have a Bluetooth full keyboard.

I'm happy to answer.

Which bluetooth keyboard do you have?

I have an evo as well but I can't stand two thumbing it like my old blackberry. Sigh, I wish I could.

I have a Freedom Pro, it works well, but you have to be comfortable downloading, installing, and configuring a non-standard apk.

What problems are you having? I hated the stock keyboard and tried out several, before landing on the Smart Keyboard.

I think my hands are too small.

(I need an android icon!)
